Grossular

Grossular

Grossular is a calcium-aluminum mineral. It belongs to the garnet group and is known for its wide range of colors, including green, orange, red, yellow, brown, and even colorless varieties. Its name derives from the Latin word grossularia, meaning gooseberry, due to the resemblance of some green specimens to the fruit.

Color Range:
Green (caused by trace amounts of chromium or vanadium).
Orange to reddish-brown (due to iron content).
Yellow, pink, and colorless varieties also occur.

Notable Varieties:
Tsavorite: A highly prized vivid green variety colored by vanadium or chromium.
Hessonite: Known for its orange to reddish-brown hues, sometimes referred to as "cinnamon stone."
Leuco-Grossular: The colorless variety, relatively rare and valued for its clarity.
