Charoite

Charoite

Charoite is a rare purple silicate mineral known for its swirling, fibrous patterns and colors ranging from lavender to deep violet. It is found almost exclusively in the Murun Massif of Siberia, Russia, making it one of the more geographically unique gemstones in the world.

Its flowing patterns are created by bundles of fine mineral fibers, which can produce a silky or chatoyant appearance when polished. Charoite often occurs with black aegirine, feldspar, and other minerals from the unusual alkaline rocks in which it forms.

With a hardness of about 5–6 on the Mohs scale, charoite is commonly cut into cabochons, carvings, spheres, and polished display specimens.

What's interesting is Charoite is ony exported from Russia in slabs - this piece is raw so it's an unusual find!
